Paolo Capece’s studies at Shimane University in Japan and the University of Reading in the United Kingdom are part of a journey across agronomy and architecture. They inform an attention to time, seasons and the relationship between buildings and nature that underlies the Studio’s villas, parks and gardens today.

Observation
before design.
Paolo Capece founded and coordinated the Regional Phenological Network for Sardinia. Phenology observes the stages of plant life, from leaf emergence to flowering, and their relationship with climate. This attention to natural rhythms informs the Studio’s design of gardens and landscapes that are meant to evolve over time.
Reading vegetation, seasons and local conditions means designing a garden with the life it will have in ten or twenty years in mind.

The phenological garden at Tissi
Opened in November 2021, the ARPAS garden at Tissi brings together scientific observation, education and public space. The 2021 annual report documents the project and credits Paolo Capece with the ornamental garden design, donated to ARPAS and subsequently to the municipality.

A contribution to phenological modelling
The volume Modelli per la difesa delle piante, edited by S. Pesolillo and M. Severini (Aracne, 2009), includes Paolo Capece among its contributors. His paper with Luigi Mariani and Osvaldo Failla examines the relationship between phenological models and grapevine protection.
